As the saying goes, change is the only constant.
When you’re planning an event, you have to have a Plan A, B and sometimes even C.
Sublime Event Designs is accustomed to staying cool under pressure. Whether it’s rainy weather, increased guest count, or last-minute changes, we’re always prepared for anything.
In this issue, we’ll share some of the problem-solving that happens behind the scenes so you can enjoy a worry-free event.
3 Ways We Prepare for Bad Weather
1 – Checking the forecast. Located in Orlando, Fla., Sublime Event Designs has hosted many events during hurricane season. We look ahead, but also know that weather can turn any minute and plan for that, too.
2 – Outdoor tents. Many of the events we have outside also feature tents. That way, if there’s minor sprinkling, we’ve got guests covered. We determine how many tents you need based on guest count, utilize our tent vendors, and obtain any permits necessary from the city.
3 – Weather contingency plan. Although changes can happen at the last minute, we don’t wait until the last minute to plan for them. During the pre-planning stage, we create a Plan A diagram for how your outdoor event will be staged and a Plan B diagram for what it would look like if we needed to relocate inside.
Food trucks create a fun social scene. For the Taste of Cincy Food Truck Festival, we incorporated elements from each business. These flowers were wrapped in an Italian newspaper in front of LaRosa’s food truck, a pizzeria that uses real Italian family recipes.
At a past event, Sublime Event Designs had to pivot an outdoor pool party to an indoor event due to bad weather. We swapped bubble girls for contortionists — and guests were in awe instead of in rain.
Here are 3 things you should know about Tom:
1. He has a strong PR, marketing and sales background and has held jobs that include events and meeting planner roles since 2000. He previously managed U.S. & global public relations for American Express Business Travel, initiated and created the relationship between MPI and JetBlue Airways in 2007 and was awarded the 2008-2009 Strategic Partner of the Year by the Greater Orlando MPI chapter.
2. He attended the opening of the W Hotel in Atlanta, which has an aviation-inspired design. As a self-proclaimed aviation geek, he enjoyed the cocktails served by staff wearing inflight uniforms, go-go dancers on elevated moving sidewalks and getting “pinned” with custom W flight wings.
3. At an event, you won’t find him sitting down. He’ll be too busy befriending everyone in the room.
He looks forward to meeting you, too!
Identical centerpieces limit your options if guest count increases. Instead, Sublime Event Designs often uses complementary ones. That way, if we need to add a table or two, it blends in seamlessly.
